About a week ago, I let Pippin outside to do his stuff before we went to bed. When he didn’t come back quickly, I peeked out to see where he was. Vaguely I could see him sniffing around outside the cattle gate, down by where we burn trash. I called him back, and though I could just barely see him, I thought I caught a guilty slink in his gait as he bolted towards me. You see, he’s not allowed down there, though there’s nothing to hurt him. Back he came racing at top speed, but for some reason he didn’t go by the cattle-guard. Instead, the crazy dog came blasting up to the “little gate”, or so we call it. Sometimes I take Pippin with me through that gate, opening it and calling him through. I guess he didn’t realize the fact that normally the gate is closed.
This time, when he tried to enter, he slammed into the closed gate and bounced off violently. BOING! The gate rattled and Pippin shrieked in surprise at the same time as he went flying backwards at the impact. Jumping up ( likely hoping if he came to my call fast enough he would miss a scolding for being on the wrong side of the fence) he ran around to the cattle guard and walked over that way. Lesson learned. I was laughing so hard I nearly fell over!
