Brrrr!!

by IggyGirl on February 4, 2010

It’s so COLD out there!  Every time I take Pip out he shivers and shivers, even when he has a sweater on.  But he loves his walks.  I suppose the walking helps him keep warm.  He trots beside me, or someone else if I get the big dog, just as happy as can be.  After a while though, very often his leg with the metal plate in it starts to hurt.  He begins to limp, lagging behind, then when we stop and look at him he limps up to whoever is holding his leash and puts his paws up to be held.  The coat I usually wear has just enough room inside to fit a shivering Iggy, so there he huddles with his head poking out until he warms up.  To announce his return to warmth, he starts to wriggle, and if I don’t notice right away, he grunts and maybe complains a little.  As soon as he’s down though, once more he’s perfectly happy and trots along with great content.  Yes, I think he’s adapting to the freezing weather.

Recently, we were in the town square and Pippin was wearing his camo sweater.  As my youngest sister and I stepped into a Tack shop, a lady who was driving by on main street, stopped and poked her head out incredulously and and asked, “Is that that dog’s color, or is it wearing a coat?”  The sister who was holding his leash said very quickly, “It’s a sweater.”  The lady stared at Pippin for a moment, then pulled her head back in the car and drove off.

Now I can ask Pippin, “Do you wanna go on a walk?” and he will start dancing with joy.  He anxiously waits for his sweater to be put on, then follows me diligently while I get my own warm things put together.  He seems to be saying “Hurry up!  Hurry up!  I wanna go!  I wanna go!”  I think he enjoys them, in spite of the cold.  lol
